[v5.2] Player was being asked if they wanted instructions, after
every puzzle. They will only be asked once, upon entering
the door.
If a player had saved a game and if they replyed 'Y' to the
'Want Instructions' question, they would not be presented
with the saved puzzle.
When changing puzzles the Hall of Fame file was not being
updated.
04/14/93
[v5.1] When creating the v5.0 ZIP file, a file was ommitted from
the archive. WHEEL.CAT is the file... sorry for the problem.
04/10/93
[v5.0] The program was originally designed to display the
apostrophe/dash/period punctuation, if it was encountered in
a puzzle. One user brought to my attention that they were
trying to use the ampersand(&) in a puzzle and it was not
being displayed and the player was unable to enter it since
the game only accepts numbers and letters. We have now
expanded the list of displayable characters to include the
following characters: '-.&!$*#+/%^@():;>< If we missed any
please let us know.
03/03/93
[v4.9] Now supports Comm Ports 0-15
Callers will be required to answer the "Want Instructions.."
question with a Y or N. This was required to circumvent a
problem encountered when running under WildCat's IM version.
Introducing a new Wheel of Fortune Maintenance program. The
program is called WOFMAINT. This version is an all-in-one
version (replacing the current version) and will eliminate
the individual maintenance modules from previous releases.
Some of the changes from the prior version are:
(1) The maximum number of puzzles that can be maintained in
the WHEEL and BONUS databases increased to 2000 in each.
(2) After entering puzzles or importing puzzles you SHOULD
perform a duplicate check (prior version did the dup
check automatically when entering individual puzzles).
(3) Improved error checking and reporting.
(4) BRUN45 not required...
(5) Should not have to use LOADFIX when running under
DOS 5.0
Reduced some of the 'wait' time when a message if displayed.
12/26/92
[v4.8] BRUN45.EXE no longer required!
Added support for Fossil-based Multi-Port cards!
New Configuration option to allow Sysop to choose whether
they want the computer to allow the SYsop to play as many
games as there are questions or if they just want to be
like any other caller.
Made some adjustments to the game to reduce the time certain
messages and wheel spin results remain on the screen. This
should 'speed up' game play for those with no patience <g>
10/14/92
[v4.7] Added support for TRIBBS software. We now access the
TRIBBS.SYS system file directly!
After a CHAT or DROP-TO-DOS the game screen will now be
restored to its original state.
To ease the burden of the Sysop having to come up with new
puzzles, we have added an optional function that will allow
the caller to supply the Sysop with puzzles. The caller will
be asked if they have any puzzles to add. They can add as many
as they wish. All puzzles entered are placed in a separate
file, in the WHEEL directory, called WOFUSER.PUZ. The Sysop
can work with the file, adding categories and then importing
it into the WHEEL or BONUS databases. NOTE: Requires a change
to the configuration file. See Docs!
06/16/92
[v4.6] You can now use an environmental variable for Non-Standard
IRQs. This will eliminate the need to have multiple batch
files to execute the door. See DOCs under NON-STANDARD COM
SUPPORT for details.
You can now use environmental variables, on the first line
of the configuration file. This will eliminate the requirement
that you create an individual configuration file for each node
in a multinode environment (ONE config file for ALL nodes!!).
See DOCs under MULTI-NODE SETUP for details.
If the player spins the wheel and does not like the point value
and does not have enough points to buy a vowel, the program
would allow the player to pick a vowel and after being told
they did not have enough points, the pgm would then allow the
wheel to be spun again. Thus the player could keep doing this
until a favorable point value comes up. Loophole closed!!!
After spinning the wheel, if the player did not like the point
value that came up, he/she could choose to solve the puzzle,
press ENTER and the program would ask for the wheel to be spun
again. Just another way to keep spinning the wheel until a
favorable number appeared. Loophole closed!!!
Made some changes to fix the TIMEOUT errors encountered
when usinga 486 with/without DesqView. Need feedback !!
Made some changes to correct the Error #6 (Overflow Error)
when using SpitFire version 3.2/SFDOORS.DAT. I need some
feedback on this one as well!
Added support for GT Power's GTUSER.BBS file. To use this
you will be required to add to lines to your configuration
files. Please see Docs for changes. Need some feedback on
this as well!
03/19/92
[v4.5] Sysops were not being allowed to answer an unlimited number
of questions, rather they were being restricted the same as
all players.
When trying to backspace over characters you entered, while
logged on LOCALLY, the system would lock up.
01/18/92
[v4.4] The new graphics boxes that displayed information such as LOSE
TURN, BONUS, etc. was slowing down the game due to the length
of time it took to display the boxes (many complaints). I have
removed the boxes which should speed up the game.
Cursor not ending up in the right position after displaying
some of the error messages.
Re-arranged the display of 2 of the options so as to make the
"spin wheel" option easier for the eye to catch.
12/29/91
[v4.3] Added an option to control when you DO NOT want the DOOR
to be used. Allows for 5 Blackout periods. This requires
a configuration file change. SEE DOCS for DETAILS!
Changes made to the screen presentation.
Program size reduced!
10/17/91
[v4.2] Added Time Remaining display. It is displayed to the
left of the "Enter Any Option...." dislays, in brackets.
Updated online instructions to reflect time remaining
instructions/explanation.
Changes to internal routines
09/06/91
[v4.1] Re-adjust delay values in non-registered version
Minor changes to the Wheel.Doc file (CFG/CNF)
Change to Docs to address a DOS 5.0/WOFMAINT system hang!
08/20/91
[v4.0] High scores not being displayed at end of game.
Changes made to several internal routines.
08/01/91
[v3.9] After the completion of the Bonus round, the High scores
display once and then you are asked if you want to see
them again. This annoying "bug" had been around a while.
If you do not answer the Bonus puzzle, the answer will be
displayed, same as the regular puzzles.
Daily and Hall of Fame bulletins were not being updated.
Problem started in the last release...
07/18/91
[v3.8] 3If ANSI not detected, caller has option to contimue or
return to BBS. No longer denies access to game, outright!
If Sysop uses the door, he/she is not restricted to
answering a limited number of puzzles per day. He/she
may answer all puzzles the door is configured for.
Registered version ONLY!
Added support for Wildcat! v3.0 (See Docs.. Config file!)
Added support for WWIV BBS' (See Docs.. Config file [untested])
Under certain circumstances the program would hang the system
after displaying the ADOPT-A-DOOR screen
07/06/91
[v3.7] Under certain circumstances, usually after all puzzles
have been answered, the program was adding points
accumulated from solving the 'last' puzzle, to the players
score in the high score file.
06/30/91
[v3.6] If you run out of guesses or only vowels remain and you
guess the puzzle incorrectly, the correct answer will
now be displayed.
"Sorry...Incorrect" was not printing correctly.
If you opted to guess the puzzle, while you still had
chances remaining and you guessed incorrectly, the
program was not letting you continue guessing letters
or spinning the wheel. I believe I found this little
"bug". If not please let me know.
06/11/91
[v3.5] When using the LEVELS option, you still had to have 250
points to buy a vowel. Vowel costs will now use the same
percentage as the point values when using the LEVELS option.
Added support for non-standard IRQ numbers (other than
IRQ3/IRQ4). See docs for implementation.
05/04/91
[v3.4] Door would hang, in local mode, when returning to BBS.
03/24/91
[v3.3] When presented with the "Press ENTER or E to exit" message,
pressing E caused another "Perss ENTER to continue" message
to appear. Eliminated the second "Press ENTER ..." message
after you press an E to exit.
When using DORINFOx.DEF, the door would stop at the start
of the game and require a key press to continue.
When using DORINFOx.DEF, the BBS NAME was not being picked
up from the configuration file and was not picking up the
correct NODE number from the configuration file.
03/10/91
[v3.2] Any puzzle containing a period (.) did not work properly. It
will now display correctly as well as allowing caller to
answer a puzzle containing a period(.).
Display was incorrectly showing that caller was to press a
"+". It should show an "*".
Top Score display was not centered... fixed
Several problems related to the use of DORINFOx.DEF
were corrected.
02/23/91
[v3.1] Internal changes to speed up program.
Corrected "hung system" when responding to a
"Press ENTER to continue, E to end" message.
02/08/91
[v3.0] Not displaying Adopt-A-Door screen in non-registered versions
Internal routine changes.
01/13/91
[v2.9] Added error trapping routines.
01/06/91
[v2.8] In unregistered versions, the points earned when a valid
letter is chosen, were not being added to the CURRENT points
variable and therefore not being displayed. FIXED
01/03/91
[v2.7] It has been brought to my attention that the speed at which
the wheel spins is dependant upon the speed of the computer
on which it is being run. The speed I had set was fine for a
286/12 computer. This speed actually put a caller to sleep if
it was being run on an 8088 computer. To help adjust for the
computer speed, I have added an option to the configuration
file. The only value I can speak for is that of 12000, which
works on my system, you will have to experiment.
01/01/91
[v2.6] Problem with last display of instructions not remaining
on screen.
Several internal programming changes
12/29/90
[v2.5] Added automatic ANSI checking, thus eliminating the
opening screen request for input.
"Warning x Minutes Remain...." message messed up the display.
This message has been eliminated.
DORINFOx.DEF now handles security levels > 32767.
12/04/90
[v2.4} Non-registered version had some verbage that wasn't centered
on the display- Fixed
Version number of ZIP now equal to version # on display
12/03/90
[v2.3]
"Illegal Function Call" when displaying Hall of Fame - Fixed
12/03/90
[v2.2] HiScore file name capitalization inconsistant with
prior versions. All names will now be capitalized.
Corrects an "illegal function" error in Bonus Round code
12/01/90
[v2.1] Not recognizing DORINFOx.DEF file - Fixed
Not handling midnight time change properly - Fixed
11/27/90
[v2.0] Adopt-A-Door message is now optional
New option to allow you to choose a level of difficulty
A configuration file parameter controls whether you want to
use the LEVELS or use the default of 8 chances to answer a
puzzle and receive 100% of the wheel points. The LEVELS option
allows you to choose 4 options.
>> You MUST run WHSAVFIX.EXE to convert your WHEEL.SAV file !!!!!!
CONFIGURATION file changes... please read Docs!!
Now supports DOOR.SYS, CALLINFO.BBS, DORINFOx.DEF and
PCBOARD.SYS formats
Keyboard timeout value is now configurable
>> Config file has been updated...see DOCs
10/20/90
[v1.9] Several changes made in an ATTEMPT to fix the "system hang"
problem when running under SOME DesqView configurations!
In WOFPUZZL program would not allow the updating of
categories 2-9. Has been fixed!
Slight cosmetic changes made.
ADOPT-A-DOOR display now centers name automatically.
Removed the BRUN45.EXE file from the ZIP file. This was done
to reduce the size of the ZIP which will result in a shorter
transfer time. It will be available on the SUNRISE-80 BBS.
10/06/90
[v1.8] WHEEL.EXE, WOFINIT.EXE, WOFPUZZL.EXE, and WOFIMPRT.EXE
have been updated to handle the following enhancements:
. CATEGORY description length increased to 20 characters
. Categories are now contained in a database file (WHEEL.CAT)
. Categories are now user defineable up to a maximum of 30
. Categories database may be updated (Add/change/delete)
programatically by using option 2 on the WOFMAINT menu
. When entering puzzles you can choose from defined
categories or you can use a temporary one (one-time use,
will not be saved in the database)
. Category names are no longer forced to uppercase when
displayed. They will maintain the case as you entered it.
Run WOFUPGR.EXE if upgrading from prior release!!!!
09/11/90
[v1.7] The program used to handle EVENT processing and puzzle
database maintenance, WHEELQ, has been replaced with
WOFEVENT (to handle EVENT processing ONLY) and WOFMAINT
(other database functions). See DOCs for changes!!
When you recycle old puzzles back into the puzzle
database or add new puzzles to the database or import a
file into the database AND then you do a DUPLICATE check
AND duplicates are found, the program was writing the
new database back out with the category being the same
for ALL puzzles. This has been corrected. You will have
to manually fix the WHEEL.DAT file with your favorite
EDITOR. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Under certain circumsatnces, relating to vowels, the
current score was not being updated properly nor was it
being displayed correctly. Corrected!
Due to several complaints, the use of the color BLUE
has been eliminated.
Re-installed the optional viewing of the High Score
file, when exiting the game.
09/08/90
[v1.6] Was miscalculating the time remaining, when starting
the Bonus round, therefore always receiving the
"not enough time" message. This should be fixed, if
not please let me know!
Was not allowing caller to answer Bonus puzzle if all
puzzles were answered and the maximum number of puzzles
were answered for the day.
Added the ability to create a Top Score bulletin and a
Hall of Fame bulletin. Two(2) new entrries required in
configuration file (see DOCS)!
If the last roll, prior to moving to a new puzzle, was a
LOSE TURN or BANKRUPT, you would receive an ERROR #5.
This has been corrected. If not please let me know!
09/02/90
[v1.5] Docs changed to make the installation process a little
less cumbersome.
[v1.4] WHEELQ was not recognizing command line parameter telling
it that it was running as an event.
09/01/90
[v1.3] WHEELQ was not recognizing a configuration file name other
than WHEEL.CNF. The change I made to handle that requires
that you supply the name of the config file on the WHEELQ
command line. In addition a change was made to the rest of
the command line. Please read the DOCs for updated info!
[v1.2] Possible problems with a couple of files. Not a major
problem, but pulled back and re-packaged as v1.3.
08/31/90
[v1.1] Top Scores were being inflated when retrieving a saved game
(under certain circumstances). If you have hadthis problem
reported to you, you can edit the WHEEL.SCO file with your
favorite editor, and adjust those scores that were(or look
like they were) inflated.
08/26/90
[v1.0] First production release.
